Join us as Buzby tells the stories of Elizabeth Jane Herrington Irwin and Mary Ellen Bates, two extraordinary women who served during World War II. Hear about how Irwin’s story was nearly lost due to a clerical error. Experience the turmoil and concerns of Bates in the aftermath of Pearl Harbor. And learn about the legacy both women left behind.

Women’s History Trivia Night

Think you know the women who helped build Clark County? Team up and compete against other challengers to see who knows their women's history best! Each game will last approximately 3 rounds and 30 minutes at 5:30, 6:30, and 7:30. The winning team for each game will receive a prize. Admission to the museum is free as part of VDA's Art Walk. This is a family friendly event.

In our third conversation of the series, CCHM Outreach Manager, April Buzby (she/they), sits down with leaders from Summer of Pride, LaCenter's Gay-Straight Alliance, and Clark County Pride to discuss their own lives and experiences as leaders in their community.

Vancouver’s Legacy of Alternative Education

 

 

 

 

The Clark County Historical Museum (CCHM) is excited to present retired alternative educator Pepper Kim as November’s Speaker Series lecturer on Thursday, November 7, 2024. Doors open at 6:00 pm and the program begins at 7:00 pm.

Pepper will delve into the development of the non-traditional learning opportunities for students of Clark County from the 1970s onward, from the humble beginnings of the Rainbow Gardens Learning and Food Cooperative to the development of the Cascadia Tech Academy (Clark County Skills Center) and Running Start.

The presentation is part of the CCHM’s ongoing Speaker Series, which features talks by local historians, authors, and experts on a variety of topics related to Clark County history.

The CCHM Speaker Series is presented by the Clark County Historic Preservation Commission. Admission to the presentation is $5 for the general public and free for CCHM members, veterans, and active-duty military personnel. The museum is located at 1511 Main St, Vancouver, WA 98660.
