“The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer.” – Abraham Lincoln
Facts and beer. They go together like cheese and…beer. History on Tap is built on the premise that history didn’t end on some dusty date on the calendar but is a dynamic story where every person is an active participant. This amusing, informative, and interactive program returns for a sixth season of bringing together two of the world’s favorite things in one of Clark County’s most treasured venues, Kiggins Theatre.
This year’s theme is “Celebrate!” and we’re exploring major anniversaries in pop culture and stories of our past that still resonate in the fabric of today. Our goal is to shed light on some of the lesser known (or understood) stories from our collective past through talks, shows, and conversations.
The night begins with a game show style segment. Building on the 2023 husband vs wife challenge, this year two individuals chosen by our marquee sponsor, Vancouver’s Downtown Association, will spend the season proving who is the Queen (or King) of pop culture and contemporary history trivia. Questions will be drawn from a variety of sources including the game Clark County Trivia created by local historian and author, Pat Jollota.
Next, is “One History and a Lie.” Modeling popular board games such as Stupid Deaths and Fact or Crap, the audience is presented with two stories from Clark County’s past. One story is presented accurately while the other contains a slight inaccuracy. Their job is to determine which story is the real one.
The final segment will be a talk given on a historical subject. In keeping with our overall theme for this year’s programming, this year’s line-up dives into stories from key anniversaries from the opening of Lucky Lager Brewery to a look at 50 years of drag culture.
